Knowledge for Shaping Futures
We support organizations and networks in transforming information about the future into decisions, capabilities, and strategies to increase their impact
Artificial intelligence, geopolitical shifts, new ways of producing knowledge, the transformation of funding models, the crisis of trust, and the growing demand for impact are rapidly changing the context in which organizations, foundations, networks, and knowledge centers operate.
Many organizations already have studies, evaluations, research, foresight scenarios, or trend analyses. The challenge is usually not the lack of information, but understanding what these changes mean for the organization and translating that understanding into decisions, capabilities, and strategies.
At Purpose & Ideas, we co-design and facilitate participatory processes that help organizations and networks build a shared vision of the future and translate it into strategic options and a roadmap for action.
We combine foresight, systems thinking, and collective intelligence to understand ongoing changes, identify risks, opportunities, and emerging signals, build agreements among diverse actors, and define what capabilities, decisions, and transformations may be needed.
The value of the process lies in moving from information about the future to a strategic conversation about the present: what we want to preserve, what we need to transform, what opportunities are worth exploring, and what we can start doing today to prepare.
The future is not just something to anticipate
Our experience
Purpose & Ideas has applied participatory approaches to foresight and organizational change with research centers, foundations, networks, and international organizations, including regional foresight and strategic planning processes. Among other processes, it has facilitated a foresight process, strategic options, and seeds of change for science and research systems in Latin America, funded by IDRC; developed a future map for CIPPEC (Argentina); and facilitated a foresight and theory of change process for Fundación La Nación (Argentina).
Three ways to work together
Futures Lab
An intensive process for organizations or networks that need to pause, interpret the context, and build a shared vision of their future. It is a space to open strategic questions before starting a planning or transformation process. We work on a shared reading of the context, the main challenges and opportunities, and the capabilities the organization may need to develop.
Transition Design
We support teams in translating a vision of the future into concrete decisions and transformations. We work on priorities, capabilities, governance, and partnerships to build a transition roadmap, identify critical decisions, and define an innovation and transformation agenda.
Strategy with a Foresight Lens
We integrate a future-oriented perspective into institutional, annual, or multi-year planning processes, so that foresight is not an isolated exercise but can guide strategy, programs, partnerships, resource allocation, and organizational development. This support may include organizational change processes, governance strengthening, theory of change review, adaptive planning, and monitoring, evaluation, and learning systems.
Each process is designed based on the context, questions, and challenges of each organization. If you need to build a shared vision of the future, make strategic decisions, or prepare your organization for changes that are already underway, let's talk.
